2018-National Masters Carnival

masters crewYes, we may call them fossils or silly old buggers and we all know they have lost that exhilarating run in their legs, and their engines are showing signs of seizing. But they all have one thing in common, and that’s their passion for the game they love and have played since junior football. Let’s not forget the long term friendships and mates and the camaraderie they get from our great game, Australian rules football.

More than 800 footballers plus officials, coaches and families converged on Coffs Harbour from 30th Sept to 6th Oct 2018 to compete in the national masters carnival. What a great achievement it was for the Chirnside Park Football Club to be represented by Mick Carusi, Anthony Uhr-Henry 050's, Steve Featherstone 055's, former senior assistant coach Warrick Dickson was the playing coach for the over 50’s, Alex Petrovic was the team manager for the 050's, Scott Hawker and our Masters coach Reece Thomas played in the 045's division 2. For the women we had Sharelene (Charlie) Hetherington our Masters 0'30's Captain represent Victoria in the Womens Masters 030's division 1.
Also we saw some great individual achievements come out of the carnival and for the first time in our clubs 40 year history we now have All Australian Team inductees and a national best & fairest winner. Mick Carusi, Anthony Uhr-Henry and Warrick Dickson made the All Australian 050's team, Mick was in a three way tie with 2 queenslanders for the best and fairest award for the over 50’s division 1.
Team results:
045’s Division 2 Premiers - Reece Thomas & Scott Hawker
050’s Division 1 Premiers - Mick Carusi, Anthony Uhr-Henry, Warrick Dickson & Alex Petrovic
055's Division 1 Premiers - Steve Featherstone
Congratulations to all the players that represented their states and on behalf of our entire club, well done its a massive achievement for, The Chief, Mumbia, Hawk, Wazza, Alex, Reece and Charlie in representing Chirnside Park and the Victorian Masters Mens & Womens teams.

Chirnside Park Football Club has fielded a successful Veteran’s team since 2001. We have been fortunate enough to have won 2 Premierships and competed in six finals series.
The club established a Masters team in 2011, affiliated with the AFL Masters - Victorian Metropolitan Football League Inc. ("Federation") and currently play in the O/45's competition. To be eligible to play in the Masters side players must turn 45 sometime in the year of competition. For example if you are currently 44 and will be turning 45 in 2018 you are eligible to play under the AFL Masters Rules.
2013 was a year of celebration with the Master's winning their first Premiership.
The key principles that underpin this group are as follows:
• Provide a venue for guys aged over 45 and women over 30 to meet and train to gain fitness once a week.
• Generate a family friendly environment. To help facilitate this we organise a number of informal and formal social functions throughout the year.
• Provide an opportunity to make new friends with other like-minded people from the local community.
Each training session is overseen by qualified coaches and support staff. Sessions involve a thorough warm up/cool down, football drills, strength work, core conditioning and a variety of running drills.
We cater to all levels of fitness & football ability as everyone is encouraged to participate. Remember you aren’t obliged to play footy to participate with our group.
During the home and away season our training sessions are held on Thursday evenings from 6.15pm at Chirnside Park Football Club, 33 Kimberley Drive Chirnside Park. So, if you have been thinking about getting off the couch and losing some extra kegs & getting fit and would like to have some fun doing it, then Chirnside Park is the place for you.
