Clinic 12 and we were greeted by a howling wind. The wind chill factor was -1 and for the kids to be out there was a great effort. I am not sure if the holidays, the cold weather or the strong wind kept everyone home but today’s clinic was very quiet across all groups.
As we know we play footy in any kind of weather and as they say in the classics “rain, hail, snow or sunshine” in our case wind the show must go on. And go on it did. As I wandered around the groups again I was impressed by the kids focus and ability to have fun. This year I have really been impressed with coach’s skill to put smiles on the kid’s faces in any kind of weather. I again asked the kid’s if they were having fun and the reply was “of course”.
With the smaller groups and the wind not getting any softer the preps spent most of their time running around chasing balls. The girls and grade ones were practicing goal kicking with a trailing howling wind and the grade twos were running around in circles probably just trying to stay warm. The grade 3’s were providing great entertainment attacking the tackle bag and one poor kid paid the ultimate price having the coach fall on top of him. The seniors were playing an entertaining game with some confusion swapping from yellow ball to red ball when the coach sore fit.
With numbers down the BBQ was quiet today but as per normal I noticed parents sneaking off for a warming coffee and bacon and egg roll.
With school back we are expecting a big turnout next week. Parents get those kids along as a big surprise only two weeks away. |

Clinic 11 and we were greeted by a lovely sunny morning after it rained most of Friday night. Due to the holidays and maybe the weather the groups were a lot smaller today. The ground was very soggy and some puddles were starting to appear.
Our sunshine was short-lived as the big grey clouds rolled in and dumped a lovely shower on top of us and scattered most parents to shelter. Sales of coffee and egg and bacon rolls tripled over the next half hour as everyone except the kids and coaches were huddled under the shelter. I was amazed by the kids endeavour to stay out in the rain and play. Several kids turned around to me and said “I love playing in the rain”, “This is so much fun”. It was great to see as the kids didn’t miss a beat in the rain.
With the smaller groups the 2’s and 3’s joined groups and had a lot of fun together. The preps were playing an entertaining game when I walked by and the senior group were working on hitouts. One group of 4 were noticeably too cold to do anything. The grade ones were showing off some real talent in a match and I was very impressed with a couple of kids. The attack on the ball from this group is very exciting to see.
A small apology for missing one of our individual winners from the round robin tournament so congratulations to Billy Rattray for coming second in the Super Kick in the round robin two weeks ago.
Please note there is no clinic next week so see enjoy the school holidays and see you all back for Clinic 12 on the 10 July.
