Today we ventured out to Warrandyte trying to rebound from last week’s lost to Boronia. It was a typical winter cold and wet sh*tty day with plenty of big muddy slop patches dotted over the ground.
Over four quarters of wet weather footy, the whole squad of 22 worked really hard in what was a tight contest all day. After being up by a couple of goals at half-time, some whatever reason during the third quarter we appeared to be a little tentative around the ball as opposed to putting our heads over the pill. It was then no coincidence that Warrandyte then worked their way back in front to eventually win the game by 5 points. You only have to give another top-4 side a slight sniff, and today Warrandyte grabbed their opportunity when it appeared in during the third quarter.
Again, all the boys applied themselves with plenty of passion and determination to only fall just short. On another day in similar conditions, the game could easily have gone our way by 5-points.
Well done to Ben on getting a crack in the starting 18. He presented well up forward and pulled in a few marks on a day not really suited to key forwards. In his first game for the club, ‘the real pig’ Rob Piggot provided experience and poise across half-back (and he’s a better bloke than his brother).
Back at home for the next 2 weeks – great opportunity to bounce back with 2 wins and get back into the top-4.
