The boys went down by 3 goals in a hard fought battle against reigning Premiers Knox last Sunday at Kimberley Reserve.
The boys approached this game with a real resolve to attain for the previous game. The first quarter was played at a frenetic pace with Knox gaining the upper hand by playing some quality hard running footy. We managed to gather enough of the ball, however our skill execution and decision making let us down which ultimately became costly.
In the second quarter we settled down and managed to start to get a flow on. JD was providing headaches for the opposition coach gaining possessions at will. The Chief Carusi came on after coaching the U13s and provided some much needed run and attacking drive off the wing. Karl Oates and Stickers were holding the backline together which was under siege.
At half time AB stressed to the boys that this game could essentially define the remainder of the season. To the guys credit they came out after ½ time and gave a terrific account of themselves by turning up the heat in the 3rd Q. Big Bolder was proving a real focal point at full forward, however unfortunately didn’t bring his kicking boots on the day. The Cat also displayed patches of brilliance, but couldn’t convert some of the chances that were presented.
The last ¼ was a thriller with the boys doing all they could to win the game. We continued to pepper the goals but missed some golden opportunities. Upo & Phil who both had a terrific second ½ of footy continued to run hard and set up opportunities around the ground. Unfortunately we ran out of time in the end, but we can take a lot of positives from our second ½ of footy.
Next game is on 30th May at home against Kilsyth.
The Vets were saddened to hear the news of the extensive fire damage to a great club sponsor in Trevor Dudley’s Menswear. We hope Pete, Mick & Romeo can pick up the pieces and get the operation back up and running as soon as possible.
